Rise of experience economy brings ‘paint and sip’ to Oxford https://popuppainting.com/rise-of-experience-economy-brings-paint-and-sip-to-oxford/ Tue, 22 Oct 2019 12:39:48 +0000 https://popuppainting.com/rise-of-experience-economy-brings-paint-and-sip-to-oxford/ Reports from Harris Poll and Eventbrite show that millennials are spending more and more of their income on ‘experiences’ (spending over $1 Trillion a year in the industry) over ’things’ – with similar trends in the UK (BBC, Radio 4, Nov 2018).

As the experience economy takes off, companies like PopUp Painting are expanding across the country. The company, which encourages people to “unleash their creativity – wine glass in one hand, paintbrush in the other” is launching in Oxford this October.

PopUp Painting & Events was launched in 2013 by non-artists with the mission to “bring art out of the classroom and gallery, into the places where people meet on an every day basis”. In that time it has painted with 35,000+ guests and operates in 6 cities across the UK. Its events are led by practicing artists who guide guests (typically non-artists) step by step through a masterpiece in social settings such as bars and restaurants.

Commenting on the expansion of the ’sip and paint’ concept across the UK, CoFounder and Director of Marketing Gareth Lewis Shelton said:

“Young professionals across the UK are getting bored of the same old afterwork drinks. People are looking more and more for memorable experiences which they can share with the people they care about.

“Lots of people come to our events and pick up a paintbrush for the first time since school, or ever, and it’s really rewarding to see people proud of what they’ve created”.

The company will launch in Oxford on 23 October at The Jericho Tavern, and is on course for a sell out first event. (See details here)

Hannah Litvack, Operational Manager for the new Oxford Team, said:

“I’m really excited to be bringing PopUp Painting to Oxford. Our city is full of young professionals and families looking for new things to do and I know the concept of ’sip and paint’ will go down a storm!”

Last Thursday PopUp Painting launched at Brasserie Blanc, Leeds with a full house. PopUp Painting runs ‘social painting’ events in bars and restaurants across the UK, and is working with the likes of Brasserie Blanc, The Mustard Pot, and The Maven with a mission of “unleashing creativity”.

The company first launched in London in 2013, and now runs c.45-50 events a month across London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool – and now Leeds.

The launch event was led by local artist, Andrew Sales, who guided guests through a version of Claude Monet’s Waterlilies. Commenting, Sales said: “it’s a perfect alternate night out for people looking for a casual and creative evening of carefree painting”.

At the event guests were guided step by step (but encouraged to go off piste if they wanted), while they sipped wine and enjoyed themed French music.

Founder and Manager Director, Phyllissa Shelton said:“We are delighted to have launched in Leeds. We are now in over five major uk cities, continuing our mission to bring art out of the gallery and classroom into the places people meet on an everyday basis.”

“Thank you to Brasserie Blanc Leeds and to all the guests that joined us on the night!”

Its first partner venue in the city is Brasserie Blanc. The company invites guests to “unleash their creativity, wine glass in one hand, paintbrush in the other”.

Now in its fifth year, PopUp Painting runs ‘painting and wine’ events in bars, restaurants and workplaces across London, Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham. Its guests are led by artists, who guide guests step by step through iconic pieces, while they “drink, paint, [and] create”.

The company will be holding its first event in Leeds at Brasserie Blanc on 23 August

Commenting on the upcoming launch, Makreting Director and CoFounder Gareth Shelton said: “We are really excited about our expansion into Leeds. People are tired of the same-old on their nights out. That’s where we come in. It’s especially pleasing to be launching in Leeds with Brasserie Blanc, who were one of our first partners in London as well.

“Most of our guests haven’t picked up a paintbrush since school — if ever — and it’s been really rewarding to see people leave an event saying ‘wow. I didn’t know I could do that’. We’re really looking forward to seeing how the people of Leeds enjoy our events”.

“People are hungry for creative playtime” — 5 years of PopUp Painting https://popuppainting.com/people-are-hungry-for-creative-playtime-5-years-of-popup-painting/ Thu, 12 Apr 2018 11:59:05 +0000 https://popuppainting.com/people-are-hungry-for-creative-playtime-5-years-of-popup-painting/

On 12 April 2018 PopUp Painting will mark 5 years since its launch. In that time the company, which runs ‘social painting and wine’ events, has painted with over 17,000 guests across more than 1,000 events. The company operates across London, Birmingham and Manchester, with upcoming launches in Liverpool and Leeds.

PopUp Painting was launched in 2013 at the Soho Hotel, London, with the mission of “Unleashing Creativity” and “bringing art out of the classroom and gallery, and into the places people meet on an every day basis”. The painting and wine events, inspired originally by the growing trend in the USA, are led by practicing artists, who guide guests step by step while they get creative “wine glass in one hand, paintbrush in the other”.

Across more than 1,000 events since the 2013 launch the company has painted with over 17,000 guests. Commenting on the five year milestone CoFounder Gareth Shelton said: “It’s clear that people are hungry to unleash their creativity. So much of people’s daily life is spent at a computer screen, and creative playtime is really missing from people’s lives.

“Our guests are typically young professionals looking for something a little bit diffferent to do. It’s amazing to see people come away from an event — after not painting since school (if ever) — and say ‘wow. I didn’t know I could do that!’. That feeling is really infectious, and I think that’s what has enabled us to do what we do and grow so much over the past five years.

“Our message would be that with a little guidance and encouragement there’s no limit to people’s creativity”

PopUp Painting Delivers Thousandth Event https://popuppainting.com/popup-painting-delivers-thousandth-event/ Mon, 19 Feb 2018 11:58:05 +0000 https://popuppainting.com/popup-painting-delivers-thousandth-event/ Now in our fifth year of trading, PopUp Painting has recently passed its thousandth event.

Launched in April 2013, PopUp Painting delivers ‘social painting and wine’ events in bars, restaurants and workplaces across London, Birmingham and Manchester. Aimed at non-artists, we invite guests to ‘unleash their creativity – wine glass in one hand, paintbrush in the other’.

Last week we delivered our thousandth event.

Gareth Lewis Shelton, cofounder, said: “We’re delighted to have hit this milestone. What we’ve seen in the past 5 years is a real appetite among people for alternate activities and a chance to do something different”

“So often our day jobs are spent sat in front of a computer screen. To do something hands on, creative and social is just what people feel they need”

In addition to its presence in London, Birmingham and Manchester, the company plans to launch in Liverpool and Leeds later this year.

“We would like to thank everybody who has been part of our journey so far – from our artists and admin team, to our venues and promotional partners, and of course our guests. Thank you!”

A Year in Review: PopUp Painting in 2017 https://popuppainting.com/year-review-popup-painting-2017/ Thu, 28 Dec 2017 11:57:07 +0000 https://popuppainting.com/year-review-popup-painting-2017/ [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Happy New Year from the PopUp Painting team!

2017 has been quite a year for us. We welcomed new members to the team, launched in new cities, and painted with more guests than ever before. Here are some highlights from the team.

We ran more events than ever before – up 25% from 2016

In 2017 we delivered more events than ever before – 300, up 25% from year prior. This was across public events, hen and birthday parties, and corporate events! This means we have now painted with well over 15,000 guests since our launch in 2013.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

We reached over 3,000 likes on Facebook and launched our (not so) secret group

There’s more to life than likes on Facebook, followers on Twitter, or on Instagram. But we flew past the 3,000 likes mark on Facebook this year – and that can’t be a bad thing! We’re putting a lot of work and thought into our content for 2018 too – so stay tuned. Lots more how-tos, pieces on mental health and wellbeing, women in business, and more CHALLENGE VIDEOs. And if you’re not in our secret Facebook group (a hotspot special offers!) join here.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

We launched in Manchester

We could not have been happier with our welcome to Manchester. In October we launched at Common Bar – and completely filled the room! From there we’ve been going from strength to strength – and are due to open in lots new spots around the city in the New Year. Liverpool coming soon, too! See our events in Manchester or sign up to our mailing list to find out about our next events in your city.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

We ran an event in Parliament for the CPA

As a politico (and having recently completed a Masters in Political Economy!) this was possibly the coolest thing to have ever happened. We were invited to run a corporate event for the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association this year (and they loved it). Wheeling our kit through Westminster Hall, where people like BARACK OBAMA had spoken, was pretty awesome.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

We supported the Loving Vincent film release

Loving Vincent is the first of its kind – a feature length movie comprised entirely of oil paintings based on Van Gogh’s work. It delves into the mystery of his death, and is truly a feast for the eyes. We ran a ‘Paint Van Gogh’ session for one of the distributor’s press nights![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

We were featured by the BBC

We couldn’t not talk about this! Sip and Paint is a global trend – with events running across America, the UK and even Dubai. As the market leader in the UK we had a reporter from the BBC, Suzanne Bearne, join us in Chelsea to find out about our events. Lots of interesting discussion and praise on Twitter followed. Have a read.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

We partnered up with Classical PopUps to run a fantastic Christmas party at the Roundhouse

Our mission is all about bringing art out of the classroom and gallery, into the places where people meet on an everyday basis. All of our events are themed with music, to make our events immersive, too. Enter: Classical PopUps. This exciting musical start up works with some of the finest musicians in the country, bringing their talents out of the concert hall. On the 14th we partnered up at The Roundhouse for our end of year Christmas Party. Check out the photos here – and watch some footage![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Have we missed something? Leave a comment and let us know.

Here’s to 2018!
