Artist Spotlight: Cornelia Parker

Artist Spotlight: Cornelia Parker

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]PopUp Painting’s ‘artistoftheweek’ is Cornelia Parker.

Cornelia Parker is an English sculptor and installation artist, who transforms the most banal of objects into extraordinary works of art.

The artist is known for her ambitious large scale works, that often span the scale of galleries and museums, however Parker also creates small scale works that are just as compelling as the larger pieces. Cornelia Parker’s works trigger cultural metaphors and personal associations, often by using simple formalist methods to transform the objects she works with. One of the artist’s most famous works is ‘Cold Dark Matter: An Exploded View’, which consisted of an exploded garden shed suspended from the gallery walls and dimly lit by a singular light source.

Cornelia Parker was shortlisted for the 1997 Turner Prize. The artist has curated an exhibition of ‘found’ works by artists that is currently on display at the ‘Foundling Museum’, London.

We will be featuring Corneila Parker’s work all week on our Facebook and Twitter pages, but in the meantime here is a selection of our favourite works by the artist:[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_media_grid grid_id=”vc_gid:1464902694225-d0ee5bfb-7438-6″ include=”11374,11375,11376,11377,11378,11379,11380,11381,11382,11383,11384,11385″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
