Press Release: PopUp Painting ‘Loving Vincent’ Press Event
PopUp Painting is delighted to be supporting the release ‘Loving Vincent‘, the world’s first oil painted feature film. At the Hospital Club, Covent Garden, last night, PopUp Painting ran a press event in collaboration with Altitude Films – the distributor – in promotion of the film, in cinemas from Friday.
The ‘Paint Van Gogh’ event was led by practicing artist Annie Dalton from the PopUp Painting team. Taking part, members of the press and guests created their own versions of Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’ – “wine glass in one hand, paintbrush in the other”, as the company suggests.
‘Loving Vincent’ is the world’s first oil painted feature film, comprising over sixty five thousand frames, painted by one hundred and thirty five different artists from across the world.
The film captures the passion of Vincent Van Gogh and adds a new perspective to the story of his life. Focusing on the penultimate weeks of his life, the film brings attention to the beginnings of Van Gogh’s success, including Claude Monet’s endorsement of him as the next artistic wonder, and the selling of his first painting.
Commenting on the event, Phyllissa Shelton (Managing Director of PopUp Painting) said: “It seems entirely fitting to be encouraging people to create their own version of Van Gogh’s most famous painting Starry Night as part of the film premiere launch week organised by the film distributor Altitude.”
“Van Gogh is our company’s favourite painter, and has been the source of inspiration for over two hundred of our events. His work has inspired thousands of our guests”.

PopUp Painting was established in 2013, and since then has ran nearly one thousand events, with over fourteen thousand guests. The company’s mission is to bring art “out of the classroom and gallery and into the places where people meet on an every day basis”. Its events are aimed at those with little or no art experience, hungry for something different to do on a night out.
Van Gogh himself didn’t pick up a paintbrush until he was in his late twenties, and had no formal training. Everybody starts somewhere.
