PopUp Painting events are led by local artists who are experts not just in their trade, but in entertainment and organisational development. In addition, they are supported by a team with expertise in management, innovation and training. PopUp Painting’s team includes 14 artist, and today we have interviewed Wyland Tondelier.
1. Introduce yourself
I am a French Artist / Designer / Performer working and living in London. I work on the theme of our idols who rock us everyday with their music or their acting. I also perform live on stage to create unique tee-shirts and big canvases very quickly. These moments are filled with lots of energy and emotions while music is on, this makes it a fantastic event attracting many people. I also create jewellery with a special recipe of milk and vinegar. I also work on demand passing a real interrogation to the future buyers. Asking questions like, where will the painting be shown? Are you after a sexy, glamorous, erotic, sensual piece? I need to know, what dimension? Colour palette? What theme? Your story?
2. How did you get into being an artist?
From as far as I can remember! I’ve always had a piece of paper and a pencil to express myself. I remember drawing on to almost everything that was in my way and at my height, now as an adult, I measure 1m86 and I still continue to draw.
3. What materials/process do you use, to create your art?
My work as a painter and visual artist implements mixed media techniques on different mediums and it invites people to think. In an incisive and powerful graphic, I draw faces on to abstract backgrounds or in black and white on a white surface to give a spirit of seeking authenticity.
I call myself a Weaver. I work to sculpt and curve my line work through drawing, painting, fabric and the use of wire. I arch, and interlaced my line work, between themselves to realise the form of my drawings and some installation art, using light and graphics. My pieces oscillate between a simple object and a real structure.
4. What is / was your most favourite piece completed so far?
I like working with my paintings and using a lot of Promarkers and Posca pens. My current abstract artwork initially works as a piece of art until a filter is applied to invert the colours with your camera in a negative mode. This allows the viewer to interact with my artworks, allowing one to admire a design and then appreciate my creative rendition, to achieve a more effective result. So really, when you buy 1, in fact you are really buying 2.

5. If you could pop up and paint anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I would like to find a studio to be able to express myself and it can be anywhere! But I would like to paint and follow the path and experience of Artist like Gauguin in the wild nature of the Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia and why not buy me an archipelago that would be called “Wyland”
6. How would you describe your experience as a PopUp Painting artist?
When I arrived in London in November 2014, I saw an exhibition on the display windows of the Trafalgar hotel. I figured that it could help me show my work. Also on one of the windows there was a PopUp Painting poster and again I thought it had to be a sign! I contacted Phylissa and I started working in February 2015. Since then I have been experimenting with meeting and travelling through London with customers who are surprised to be able to make a work of art in a short time!
7. What is your favourite venue to PopUp and Paint?
Central London and The Horniman at Hays are my favourite locations.
8. When is your next PopUp event?
My next event is Saturday 11th March at Urban Meadow painting a London Skyline by Chloe Bruce.
9. Just for fun. Would you like the power to go invisible or the power to move tings with your mind?
The power to move things with my mind is the best choice for me, because I could paint more and more. I could move a lot of brushes at the same time !
