Martine Creed is a British sculptor, installation and conceptual artist. Creed is known for his minimal and humorous approach to making work. The artist plays with definitions of art, pushing the limits of how and what we view as art. Creed uses banal, everyday objects to create works, such as blue tac, curtains and scrunched up paper. Many of Creed’s works take the form of ‘situations’, again, usually banal ones. A prime example of this is when the artist won the Turner prize in 2001 for ‘Work No. 227’, which consisted of the lights of the gallery going on and off at intervals.
Creed also plays in a band called ‘Odawa’ which bridges the gap between his art and music.
