[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]PopUp Painting’s ‘artist of the week’ is Austrian artist Erwin Wurm.
Erwin Wurm is a multi-disciplinary artist who uses drawing, video, photography, performance and sculpture in his practice. The artist is known for pushing the conventional boundaries of sculpture by creating work that focuses on the premise that sculpture is purely based on mass and volume. In this respect, Wurm describes humans gaining or losing weight as a sculptural act.
Erwin Wurm’s most famous works are perhaps his ‘One Minute Sculptures’, where the artist created absurd sculptures using ordinary domestic objects in conjunction with the body. The artist left instructions for visitors to his exhibitions to recreate these works and themselves to briefly become sculptures.
Wurm also creates large scale installations using ordinary objects and turning them into uncanny and exaggerated versions of themselves. The artist uses humour to cast a cynical eye on the world we occupy.
We will be featuring Erwin Wurms work all week on our Facebook and Twitter pages, but in the meantime here is a selection of our favourite works by the artist:[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_media_grid grid_id=”vc_gid:1471818679670-36c0041a-939f-7″ include=”12589,12590,12591,12592,12593,12594,12595,12596,12597,12598,12599,12600″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
