Charities to support this LGBT History Month

The UK LGBT+ History month is every February. It is an annual event to look at lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history and the history of gay rights. Schools OUT UK, is the founding organiser of LGBT+ History Month UK. The event came in the wake of the abolition of Section 28 in 2003.

Schools OUT UK

Schools OUT UK founded the UK LGBT+ History month. The charity itself evolved from The Gay Teachers’ Group, a socially-supportive network established in 1974 following the sacking of a London teacher who had been ‘outed’ to his managers by a student. Their goal is goal is to make our schools and educational institutions safe spaces for our Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) communities.

LGBT Foundation

Based in Manchester, the LGBT Foundation launched in 1975, which delivers advice, support and information services  lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans communities. They are currently running an Equality Wins campaign to ensure all LGBT people feel welcome and accepted.

National Aids trust

NAT is the UK’s HIV rights charity, who aim to stop HIV from standing in the way of health, dignity and equality and to end new HIV transmissions.

UK Black Pride

UKBP is Europe’s largest celebration for African, Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin American and Caribbean-heritage LGBTQ+. The UK Black Pride celebrations take place in July.

Stonewall Equality

Founded 30 years ago Stonewall Equality fights for inclusive communities, schools and workplaces across Britain, they aim to create a world where LGBTQ+ people are free to be.

The Proud Trust

The Proud Trust is a charity with supports LGBTQ+ youths. They organise LGBT Youth Groups and offers LGBT awareness training.

Hidayah

Hidayah means “guidance” in Arabic, the organisation offers projects, activities, advice and welfare specifically for for LGBTQI+ Muslims.

MindOut

MindOut provides mental health services run by and for the LGBTQIA+ community. Its primary focus is on supporting those in crisis through legal guidance, counselling and access to peer networks. They aim to improve the mental health and wellbeing of LGBTQ communities.

House Of Rainbow

House of Rainbow works to empower members of the BAME LGBTQIA+ community by making society safer for all. House of Rainbow provides one to one support, group gatherings and training workshops for members of LGBTQIA+ and have a faith.

Gendered Intelligence

Gendered Intelligence supports young trans people up until the age of 25. They aim to increase gender diversity and improve trans people’s quality of lives.

AKT

AKT supports LGBTQ+ young people aged 16-25 in the uk who are facing or experiencing homelessness or living in a hostile environment. They guide young people into safe homes and employment, education or training, in a welcoming and open environment that celebrates LGBTQ+ identities.
