You may have already guessed that a PopUp Painting event can’t run without paint.
With two 45 minute parts to an event, the best paint we can use is Acrylic. Acrylic paint is a fast drying medium, perfect for layering, and for having a painting dry enough to take home at the end of the evening. Although we do encourage creativity and having fun, it is generally best not to cake the whole surface with a thick layer of the paint as this will take a long time to dry!
Acrylics are water-soluble, but become water resistant when dry. A final painting can bear a resemblance to watercolour, great for those canvases that require a few splashes and drips everywhere such as Banksy pieces. Acrylic can also resemble oil painting or acquire its own distinctive feel, depending on how you decide to use them.
Although acrylic is not re-hydratable once dry, if you feel something just doesn’t sit right on your canvas, acrylics are also great for covering over slight mishaps!
One little fact about Acrylic is that ‘fast drying’ really means fast drying! Extra care is given at all our events to ensure that you only go away with the paint on your canvas and not your clothes. So please do shout in time should you discover any. However if you prefer a brand new look to the one you came in then feel free to spatter away!
